Have you ever had one of those weeks that you feel like you really haven’t accomplished anything? Discouraging right?? The cure to that is write a post about it – see you really did accomplish a lot now didn’t you!
Okay at least that’s what I was hoping would happen when I posted my weekly wrap up – when the next week has already started! I guess it looks like I did a lot, but my brain is still in that ‘scattershot’ mindset. I can see that I probably wasted some time by trying to focus on too much.
And this is an awful habit that I can’t seem to get control of. Why do I suddenly decide to start a bunch of projects when I have the least amount of time to work on them? I’m sure that this is Psychology 101 – that I’m subconsciously creating a stressful week for myself because I love crochet drama!
My daughter Aimee’s birthday is May 1st. She will be in town for her friend’s wedding this weekend so I will be seeing her on Sunday (yaaaaaaay!) which means I have to finish making her presents this week! Now I knew what I wanted to make for her for her birthday months ago – why did I wait till the last minute!!
So needless to say I did not have any time this week to find any new blogs to follow other than returning the follow for new blogs that followed me. This makes me a little sad because ten a week was an April goal. 😦
I just need to find 20 this week to make up for it!! – see what I did there? I’m already trying to give myself more things to do when I don’t have the time to do them. 😀
I am going to take a calculated risk here that Aimee will not be reading this post and show you a sneak peak of what I’m making her for her birthday! I’m sure she’s figured it out anyways because I was trying to casually ask her about what colors does she think would be best for some throw pillows. Yeah – I’m so subtle and smooth!!
She ended up sending me a picture to use as inspiration for if I ever decided to make her some pillows. She was very sweet to pretend like she didn’t know what I was up to.
This is Pillow #1 – It will be a rectangle pillow 14″ x 20″. I started it this weekend and I’m about half way done. I chose a shell pattern to compliment the curves of the inspiration picture. I will be putting one row of the gold color across the middle of the pillow.
Pillow #2 will be a round pillow that I’m going to make the pillow – not using a pillow form – using a bone colored yarn and attach a doily type of design on top of it. I will be using the same colors as pillow #1 but I will be attempting to incorporate the circle hairpin lace motif in the center. I’m really hoping that the design in my head comes out the way I want when it comes off my hook!
So as if that wasn’t enough I’m also going to try to finish a duster length cardigan for her too! I started this early last week and I’m only about one third of the way done. I’m using the same pattern as my Spring Sweater but making it knee length instead of stopping at the waist.
I also started work on a maxi skirt for myself last week.
So hopefully the next post I make will be Yaaaaaay I finished and not a picture of a Target Gift card that I ran out and bought on Saturday!
Thanks for reading!
~ Tami
Now I know why we are virtual friends – I do the same thing!!! I am trying to finish a blanket for my sister’s birthday in June and wanted to make one for my mother in law too. I have a fee other projects going as well. What am I thinking. I am now so overwhelmed and have developed severe wrist pain too so no crocheting while I heal. 😐

Oh no!! I hope your wrist feels better soon! I really seem to do better when I’m under pressure but that seems like such a bad plan all the time!! I’m sure there are going to be some late night and very early crochet sessions this week!! 😀

Tami it is both wrists and my elbow. 😐 have you ever experienced this? It is so bad it wakes me up at night. I know I need to rest them but my MANY projects are calling me and so are my self imposed deadlines. Perhaps I should seek out crocheters anonymous- LOL

Yes we were truly destined to be virtual friends – I pinched a nerve trying to learn hairpin lace crochet – put me out of commission for just over 6 weeks. Try to keep your arm straight when sleeping or resting it – elbows are under the most strain when they are bent (learned this when I pinched a nerve) I often get pins and needles in my left hand when I’m crocheting but it clears up when I gently shake out my wrists and take a little break every now and then. And you are absolutely right – these are SELF imposed deadlines! Our family and friends won’t want us to hurt ourselves making them a scarf or something so WHY do we do this?? I don’t know the answer but I’m sure I am not going to be changing my behavior. 😀

You are so right and your tips are excellent! I will do this for sure. Thanks!

Love love love that blue and grey/silver together! Can’t wait to see the maxi skirt too as I have been looking around for a nice crochet skirt pattern for a while.

I do too! I probably would never have thought to put these two colors together until this project! I looked around a lot for a skirt pattern that was easy and practical but couldn’t find any either so I’m designing my own. I used a back loop technique like you would for a hat band so it’s strechy for the waistband then I’m going around in a continuous single stitch so that it’s not see through until I get to just above the knee then I’m going to open it up with some lacier stitches so it’s not too heavy for summer. 😀

I do this too, lol. I just finished Christmas presents about 3 weeks ago…for this past Christmas. But I haven’t seen any of the recipients since before Christmas, so I don’t feel too badly about them being late.

Oh my gosh Kate – you just reminded me that my son’s slippers that I was making him for christmas are sitting in my unfinished crochet drawer!! Yikes I should probably consider those to be a next christmas present instead of a last christmas present!! LOL 😀

You’ve got a right nick nack for colour combos! Whats the shade called for your circle? I think we wouldn’t be true crafters if we didn’t give ourselves too much to do lol. It’s bloody annoying though when you’ve got a deadline. You’ve got this girl you can do it 😀

It’s Caron Simply Soft Gold. I did not buy any of these to use together. My daughter said – Teal and Gray with some mustard yellow and I just happened to have these in my stash. I probably wouldn’t have used them together until she asked for those colors. I’m going to try like hell to get one pillow done today! 😀

It’s lush!!!! Im obsessed with yellow shades for some reason. She’s picked a good colour combo, real nice. Well it’s past 4pm here so I’ll see where your at when it hits around 9 here LOLOL

Tami,
I am tired reading all the projects you plan to complete this week! May your crochet hooks fly through that yarn! Now I better go finish quilting the lap quilt I intend to give someone tomorrow morning!

Hahaha Kathy you’re too funny!! May your needles whip through that fabric like dragonfly wings!! It really is more fun with an insane deadline isn’t it?? 😀

I can completely relate to the ” moving things to the next week” and “starting a gift at the last minute”. I have started a Bullet Journal to help me stay on track, and also to show me I do get things accomplished even when I feel I don’t.
Where did you get the pattern for the sweater? I would like to make myself a cardi or two for work, because I’m always cold. If it’s one of your design I would love to buy a copy.

I love this sweater pattern and it’s very easy! Plus there are sweater style variations that you can do to get different looks from the same base pattern. Here is the YouTube video that I used – there is also a link to the written pattern in the video notes – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pqlHtgSD9o I used the same pattern for the Spring Sweater I made for my MiL. I will be making several for myself in a few months so that I’ll have a new Fall/Winter wardrobe!! 😀

Awesome! Thank you. I like my cardis, but need more. Plus, what better way to show off my work than to wear it. 😀

I got the pattern, now just to make the time to get it made. Thank you for the link. 😀

That is a pretty ambitious list of projects to get completed. They look and sound really good though. I particularly like the duster length cardi idea. You better get those fingers working….

I am secretly hoping she won’t like the duster so I can keep it for myself!! Right now I am confident that I did not over-extend myself but we’ll see how the week progresses!! 😀

I love the colors you are using, and the shell stitch is one of my favorites! Good job on all of this, I know you can complete it!! Go Tami Go!

Do not go to Target. I repeat. Do not go to Target. Keep working on those beautiful gifts. Aimee is one lucky girl! And if you don’t get it all done in time… better late than never! Happy Birthday to your daughter!

Thanks Robin! You are a great cheerleader!! I’ve made a lot of really good progress today – the first pillow will be done before I go to bed tonight!! 😀

I’m the opposite right now. Now that the big doll is done, I’m feeling idle with no pressing projects. Unless you count the sweater coat that still needs sleeves or the other one I’m still plugging up. Didn’t I promise I wouldn’t start anything new until I finished those? But I don’t want to. It’s hot now and winter is so far off! I’ll be scrambling on the first day it gets cold again wondering why I didn’t finish it when I had all this project free time. Then I’ll feel pressed for time trying to finish them before next winter is over! LOL Your projects look awesome!

LOL I would need a vacation for a week or two after finishing a project like that!! I know what you mean Yolanda about summer crochet. I’m hoping I won’t lose my crochet steam when it gets really hot out. I need to either find some very small projects or make sure I’m always sitting right in front of the air conditioner! 😀

Thank you!! I have one pillow almost done – just 4 rows to crochet then stitch it together. I should have time to finish the second pillow but if not I can always mail it to her! 😀
