October Treats and Some Tricks

Another month gone by and another month closer to Christmas. At the beginning of the month I decided to make a master list of crochet projects that I need or want to do for the holidays. The only thing I’ve accomplished so far is writing that list!! πŸ˜€

I did a lot of crocheting in October. I just didn’t do anything on my holiday make list. That’s fine there’s still plenty of time. Right?????

October Crochet Treats!!

Jumbo Crochet Bag 1

Jumbo Crochet Bag

My most popular project for the month was the Jumbo Crochet Bag! I loved making this fun bag for a few reasons. The colors were so bright and cheerful. It was impossible not to have fun making this bag. The pattern was super easy. So easy it wasn’t even a pattern at all. I just made a big circle using half double crochet for the bottom then alternated a few rows of double crochet stitches along with a simple chain mesh. The best reason that I loved making this bag is because I sent it as part of a Happy Package to my blogger friend Ricci and she loved it!! πŸ˜€

Scrubby 2

Bright and Fun Crochet Scrubbies

The scrubbies were also part of the Happy Package that I sent to Ricci. I had enough of the Red Heart Scrubby yarn to make a couple for myself too! These were made using a free pattern that I found from Red Heart. I included a link to the written pattern and the video tutorial in my original post – Bright and Fun Scrubbies.

I actually completed two additional crochet projects in October but I haven’t posted them yet. I made a large C2C graphgan blanket for my hubby and I designed another poncho for my daughter. I will be posting those very soon. I was super happy with how both of those projects came out and I can’t wait to share them!

October Tricks!!

cold-1972619__340

I spent the first 10 days of October dealing with a nasty cold. It took weeks to fully recover. Fortunately I was still able to lift my crochet hook!

Fantastic Bake Along – Chili Chocolate Bread

Chili Chocolate Bread 3

The Fantastic Bake AlongΒ  recipe this month was from Tina @ Kristabella’s Hodgepodge for Chocolate Chili Bread. This really was a fantastic recipe. I’m only calling this an October Trick because I accidentally used too much butter and didn’t get a nice rise from my dough. It was super tasty though, just very dense because I messed up. No matter how many times I say it the phrase – too much butter just doesn’t make sense to me. I’m the butter queen when it comes to cooking and baking!!

The last trick of the month happened on Sunday night into Monday morning. We had a wicked storm that was really scary. The wind was howling all night and we could hear trees uprooting and falling in the woods behind my house. We ended up losing electricity just before midnight on Sunday and the power didn’t come back on until around 4:00 am on Tuesday!!!! I was of course crocheting by candle light! πŸ˜€

So now it’s time to get serious about my holiday crochet projects!!! I have already started making a shawl for my sister in law. It’s my first time ever using a pineapple stitch pattern and I am really really tempted to keep it for myself. Next up on my list is to crochet a Mrs. Santa skirt for my daughter Aimee. She needs it by the end of the month. I already have the yarn and the design in mind, I just need to get started.

I’m sure I’m not the only one that hasn’t started their holiday projects yet – right????

It’s okay – we have plenty of time! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Thanks for reading!

    • LOL!! I’m glad I didn’t plan any Halloween projects. I just hope that when I do my end of the month post in November that I’m not still saying – we have plenty of time right? LOL πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  1. Tami ~ well you DID make the list. That’s a start. And sounds like you’re on your way to checking some of them off.
I’ll pretend you didn’t ask about my progress… I gotta make the list first!

    • Hi Jan! It’s funny, while I was making the list I was so motivated to get started on it, but then I got sidetracked. LOL
I’m really really really committed now to get going on it. Hopefully I won’t get distracted again. But I think we both know how that goes!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  2. I’m starting some Christmas gifts. Just cowls and scarves. I’m in no hurry to finish any of them. My Grinchalong experience last year taught me a lot about how making Christmas things for people doesn’t have to drive me crazy. This year it’s been fun to focus on other holidays, like Halloween. I’m going to make some Thanksgiving stuff but haven’t started that yet. I still love the bag. I wish I could marry it!

    • Hahahaha!! I really love that bag too. It was a little bit hard to give it away. Now I have added “bright colored jumbo bag” to my list of projects to make for myself. I’m so happy that the person I sent it to loves it as much as we do. Hmmmm I wonder if I could make some lacy place mats or a table cover in time for Thanksgiving!!! It’s just too easy to get distracted. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

    • Thanks so much Tracey!! Ricci loves the bag and I was so happy that I was able to make something to brighten her day! Thank you for the encouragement on getting my list done. Once I get started on the projects it should go smoothly. I have all of the yarn that I need and it’s so exciting to make things for my family and friends. πŸ˜€

  3. The bag is awesome, definitely great colors! Christmas… so close but so far away! Having to plan a child’s birthday party at the beginning of Dec. really makes the whole holidays a tough one to fit in anything. Split your holiday list in half and that is what you will need to get accomplished this month πŸ™‚ .

    • Thanks Meggan! The bright colors on that bag made it so much fun to make. My youngest daughters birthday is close to Thanksgiving so it was always tricky trying to plan her parties too. I’m almost done with the first project on my Christmas To Do list and I’m excited to start on the next one!! πŸ˜€

    • LOL!! I am a compulsive list writer Yolanda. My problems happen because I write out a list then end up doing things that aren’t even on the list at all!! I wonder if my to do list is really a “Projects to Procrastinate On” list!!! I admit I love the challenge of a tight deadline. Crochet frenzy is definitely how we roll!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  4. For the most part I don’t make Christmas presents for people, except for my Mom. I’m almost done with a lapghan made with Mandala LB yarn and because I was silly enough to buy an extra skein (whoops!) I think I’ll make a neckwarmer for my sister. Funny story – For a few years, my husband and I made presents. One year I went to my husband in September and asked him if we were going to make presents, and he gave me a look and told me not to bother him so early. I told him that if I was going to make something I needed the time, so he better think about it and give me an answer soon, because I wasn’t going to stress trying to get presents out at the last minute. Fast forward a couple years and my hubbie is making dispenser candy dishes for presents, but he started them late so he was rushing/stressing out at the end. After Christmas he says to me that if he was ever going to make presents again to make sure he starts them in July!

    • LOL that is funny!! πŸ˜€ I like to crochet gifts for my three children, my son in law and my hubby. This year though my mother in law asked me to make two things for her to give as gifts and my oldest daughter asked if I could make something for her mother in law and her grandmother in law. Of course I said I would. I tell myself every year that I’m going to get started early so I won’t get all stressed out. Maybe next year I actually will!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

    • LOL you are so right Brenna!! The holidays wouldn’t be as much fun without the last minute stress!!! At least you have a very good reason for not starting yet because of the craft fairs. I haven’t started yet because I keep making things that aren’t on my list!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

    • Oh my gosh Hannah – I am out of control!!! I started yet another project that is NOT on my list!! I think I need to hire someone to hold on to all of my hooks and yarn and only give me what I need to work on the holiday list. πŸ˜€

  5. Firstly, holy shit i didn’t know you had a storm? I wondered why when i emailed it was all quiet LOL. That’s scary though with the trees. YOLO! That bag thought is freakin amazing, your friend will love it ❀ AND don't worry about the holiday projects. You've got some time yet and i think doing christmas stuff too early, takes the fun out of it and winter! YA DIG ME!!!!! This month is going to be so much fun in the craft world on here πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ SO excited to see what you make hehe

    • So I was all ready to start working on my list and then guess what I did…….. I started making another poncho!! And ponchos are NOT on the list for anyone LOL!!! I’ve got poncho fever! I think I might have been more motivated to start winter crochet if it had been chilly here, but it still felt like summer up until a few weeks ago. There’s still plenty of time and the good thing is that there’s really only 4 projects that I promised to have done. Those I will make first and everything else on my list is pretty much stuff that I hoped/wanted to make to give as gifts. So it won’t be the end of the world if I don’t have time for them.
My inbox is ridiculous right now – way out of control. I might have missed your last email LOL! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
